30% Federal Tax Credit
With the Energy Policy Act of 2005 tax credits were established for solar electric and solar hot water systems that apply to homeowners and businesses. This was set to be discontinued at the end of 2008, but when the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 was passed all of these tax credits were extended until the end of 2016.
Residential and Commercial Photovoltaic (PV) systems: The federal tax credit is worth 30% of the net PV system cost.
Residential solar hot water systems: The federal tax credit is also worth 30% of the solar system expenditures up to a maximum tax credit of $2000.
Commercial systems are qualified for a five year Modified Accelerated Cost Recovery System (MACRS) which basically means that your company will be able to depreciate the full value of the system in five years.
